Photo-a-Day ~ Day Thirty ~ Avon Nails!

When I was in my teens I was an Avon addict. Must of my makeup collection consisted of their Colour-trend products and  I loved one of their fragraces, but I don't remember the name of it now.

I know in recent years they've got the Pixiwoo sisters on board and released so may cool products that I've read good things about (dying to try the gel eyeliner pencils that they have!), so I'm quite excited to start rediscovering them and their products.

Last week I got this speed dry nail polish in turquoise pop and I could not wait to paint my nails in it. It's a perfect summer shade that is bright and fun. First off, the brush is one of those wide maxi brushes which I love! The polish was opaque within two coats and had a gorgeous glossy finish, and it lasted a good few days before I chipped it too! (I always chip polish without fail!) . .  I can't make too much comment on drying time though, as I applied my Seche Vite on top before it had set. I wouldn't have said it dried in 30 seconds though.

I love the bottle, the brush and the pigmentation and I'm definitely up for trying some more from Avon now!

Check out Avon online, here!

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Twenty Nine ~ Magnolia and Mûre.

I'm not a perfume expert, I can't explain the different notes or things that I pick up from taking a sniff very well.. I just know if I like something or if I don't.

I kind of see perfume smelling like wine tasting, you know how they swill it and pick out individual things? I can't do that and I'm not good at it with scents.

So, enough rambling. This is one fragrance from a new L'Occitane fragrance collection La Collection De Grasse. Here is what they say!
A sensual blend of flower and fruit, the Magnolia & Mure Eau de Toilette allures with its shimmering, velvety scent.

The prelude to this fragrance includes notes of magnolia, made with an essential oil from the Far East. The eau de toilette evolves with wild and musky blackberry notes, giving a tenderrness to the woody profile.

To enhance the intensity and longevity of this fragrance, layer with Magnolia & Mure Perfumed Body Milk.

Magnolia & Mure Eau de Toilette is part of our Grasse Collection, named after the city of Grasse in Provence. Located near the Mediterranean, the city became known as the "perfume capital of the world," by combining the cultivation of local flora with the trade of precious Eastern ingredients.
I'd definitely agree with bits of that. It's definitely is fruity and that is the first thing I get when I spray it on, but I feel like it turns more musky after it's been on for a while. It's a day fragrance for me and it really does last for a few good hours which is great because I never remember to reapply my perfume very well.

Check it out here.

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Twenty Eight ~ Hair Oils.

I don't know if I have ever mentioned my love of Moroccan Oil before... I don't think I have.

This stuff is a godsend! I love it all year around, but at the moment as the weather is warmer I find that my ends feel that little bit drier and this just makes everything smooth and silky again.

The bottle is small, but you can get larger ones. But I swear, you only need a tiny amount, even for a lot of hair, and it totally hydrates and smooths your hair.. The bonus is that is smells gorgeous too! Slightly male after shave-ish, but good!

Do you use a hair oil? What are your faves?

Anyone else obsessed with new makeup brushes? I've been loving these from Crown Brush ad have been playing with them a ton this weekend. They are sooo soft and amazing quality. I'll be doing a full review soon!

Sometimes new brushes excite me more than actual makeup. Am I a weirdo? Haha.

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Twenty Four ~ Sister!

Today I wanted to share a cute photo of my beautiful sister and one of our family dogs, Milo. (He's a cutie!)

I love my sister Chloe so much, she is the most beautiful, amazing and intelligent girl I know (I am biased, but..!) She's so grown up and sensible and I am very proud of her. I hate that she's 17 and not 11 any more, but I'm very happy that she's becoming a very lovely young woman.

I love you sister!

The Yogi Fat Barrel Hair Curling Wand.

Back in December I had my hair cut into a short layered bob that was wavy and voluminous when styled. I took a while to learn how to style it to have it looking it's best but I really liked it. As it grew I liked it more but my curling methods were taking me ages to do and I really thought a fat barrel wand would be better to use on it, especially because I have naturally thick/already curly hair anyway.

I've been using this Fat Barrel Wand* from Yogi for a few weeks now and it's perfect for the look that I want (shown above).

The wand itself is black with a simple on off switch. It has a rubber feeling handle that's really easy to grip when you're curling, and it also comes with a handy heat glove so that you don't burn your fingers. I would suggest you use the glove with the Yogi wand, as one of the great features is that it heats up right to the tip of the barrel, this means you can get burnt if you don't remember though! I managed to burn both thumbs on my first try because I was foolish and thought I could do it without the glove. Haha!

The wand heats up to 160 degrees super fast and the ceramic barrel means each curl has a lovely smooth look and shine to it. I like that it doesn't heat up to a ridiculous 210 degree heat too, I think that temperature is unnecessary for curls. I know I'm lucky because my hair holds curl well anyway, but I only need to hold the strands on this for about five seconds and the curl is perfect.

This has definitely become my go to curling tool and I simple love it! I would definitely recommend it if you're in the market for a curling wand. This particular wand currently is on sale on the website for just £39.95 instead on £64.95.

Keep an eye on my you tube channel too, I'll be putting a video up as soon as I can. (I'm currently having editing probs!) I'll post that here too.

Thanks for reading!

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Twenty Two ~ Some Wise Words.

I love how true this is. It's annoying when we start something with a ton of reasons, then we get tired of it and forget those reasons or how we felt. I don't want that to happen.

I found this on Instagram and I wanted to remember it. It's great if you're on a journey and ever feel like you can't do it, or you are sick of doing it. I'm not struggling with anything at the moment, but I want to come and look at this if I am.

I love random motivational/inspiring quotes!

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Twenty One ~ Red vs Nude.

This is a day late again, I know! Haha.

Anyway, I had a quiet weekend, but I always like to play with makeup if I get the chance and take some pics for a FOTD (which I do not post enough!) this was yesterday's FOTD and I tried it with a nude and a red lip. I love bright lips and red is my all time fave, but I think I liked the nude better this time.. Others prefer the red more though. *Shrug*

It was just a smoky eye with club eye shadow from MAC (a fave!).

Did you have a good weekend?!

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Twenty ~ Swatchfest.

My name is Sophie and I have too many lipsticks...

Haha! This pic is a couple of weeks old, but I've been slowly sorting through my lipstick drawer and these were some swatches.. To be honest it's not helping me to get rid of any, I just swatch them, sort them into brand and put them neatly away .. not how it is supposed to work.

I need new makeup storage badly. I don't want to get rid of makeup but I don't have room for it all.

How do you store yours?

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Nineteen ~ Summer Days.

I took this lovely photo on my phone this morning when I was on my way out... pretty, isn't it?
It was already about 20 degrees C at 9am this morning when I took this. I cannot handle it! My poor boyfriend is working 12 hour shifts at the moment in this, and working really hard. I feel so sorry for him.

I'm currently out of a cold shower with my fan pointed at me, cooling me down... I have windows open and a bottle of cold, cold water and I'm still too hot. I don't likeeeee it!

Anyone else feel the same? I get mixed thoughts from different people, but I'm surprised at how many actually agree with me sometimes too.

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Eighteen ~ All About The Eyes, YSL.

I love luxury beauty brands, luxurious beauty products always feel like such a treat to use. I don't own too many if I'm honest but I'm slowly adding little pieces to my collection and I find I always feel that little bit more glam when I use them.

Recently I got this gift set* from Yves Saint Laurent at Harrods and I cannot fault any of the products. I had actually never tried anything from them before, but I had often read good things about their lipsticks, and the gorgeous gold packaging speaks for itself.

I really like that the set had two full sized products, the much raved about false lash effect mascara and touche eclat, and that it also contained a few minis to try out - the eye cream, makeup remover and black eye liner.

- The Mascara.. I am IN LOVE with this! I was wowed by the first coat, it's the blackest black, it gives so much length and volume to the lashes and is really buildable if you want a true false lash look. I liked that even after a couple of coats my lashes still feel like lashes and not crunchy or gross. It stays on too, no smudging or flaking, this is my go to at the moment and I've been telling everyone about it. It's like a must have.. It's the best mascara I've tried, and that is a bold claim.

- The Touche Eclat.. Ah, the famous touché éclat... Is it a concealer, is it a highlighter?! I did research this before I used it, I wanted to get it right. It's kind of both to me! It really does a wonderful job at brightening under the eyes, right in the inner corners which is my favourite way to use it. It is lovely on the tops of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bone and cupids bow too. I really like it and I get the hype. It's not shimmery, but it really does a good job of brightening and concealing subtly.

- The Eye Cream.. I want a full size of this now! I love trying out new eye creams to see if they make any difference to the look or texture when I apply makeup. This eye cream has a very light scent which I enjoy and it goes on silkily smooth and sinks in quickly, it instantly brightens, but what I love is that you can feel it - it has a soft soothing/cooling effect which I find really refreshes my under eyes. I'd love a full size of this.

- The Eye Makeup Remover.. This is a dual phase remover, you know the sort that you shake up and it mixes the oils together. It did a great job at removing my makeup and didn't irritate my eyes at all, but it didn't impress me enough that I'd want a full size, I'm quite happy with cheaper brands that do the trick as well.

- The Pencil Eye Liner.. I didn't know what to expect from this, an eye liner is an eye liner right? ... Well yes, but this is a really nice quality eye liner, it's super black, applies smoothly and stays put! It's waterproof but has more staying power than other waterproof liners that I love, and the pigment stayed, it didn't fade. This mini size is actually a really generous size too.

Take a look at the Harrods YSL beauty section to check out these products, and others in the range individually.

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Seventeen ~ Apocaliptic!

Anyone know how we got to the 17th so quickly?  This year is just flying by! They say the older you get the faster it passes you by, that's definitely true!

Today I tried the Rimmel Apocalips for the first time, I've been seeing them around and loved the look of this shade, apocaliptic. Isn't it pretty? I like lots! I want to get the red one too.

I'll have a proper review about it sometime soon. :)

Summer fun on the road.

Who here loves a road trip? I really do! I love watching them in movies and I love going on them with my friends. I've not been on many in my time and I've always thought how fun they look in a movie and they travel across America in a convertible with the wind in their hair.

Mine have been slightly different, but equally as fun, it's what you make it, right?!

It's been a long while since I've been on one and when I used to go I'd be totally unprepared for it and just grab the things I needed without thinking about it.. Today it would be far  more hectic, I'd want to take along so many essentials  and probably a change of clothes. When I was a teen I didn't worry so much about things. Let's not forget snacks and things. It's funny how my friends and I would just go on a long drive to wherever and be totally unprepared for anything. But one thing we always had was fun.
